He holds a BA in Economics and Geography and an MSc in Development Policy and Planning from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a PhD in Corporate Governance from the University of Ghana (UG), and a Barrister-at-Law qualification from the Ghana School of Law. Additionally, he has obtained certificates from prestigious international institutions like Yale School of Management, MIT Sloan School of Management, and Howard University. With over 30 years of corporate experience, including 20 years in senior and executive management roles, Dr. Obeng-Adiyiah has established himself as a prominent figure in the business world. He began his career as Operations Manager at OLAM Ghana Ltd., before joining State Insurance Company (SIC) as Marketing Manager in 2002. At SIC, he contributed to the establishment of SIC Financial Services (SFL) and played a key role in putting together the SIC Insurance IPO. Later, he became General Manager at Phoenix Life Insurance and has served as Managing Director of Unique Insurance Company since 2013. Dr. Obeng-Adiyiah has held various influential positions, including Commissioner for the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Board Member of AirtelTigo, Vice President of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), and Chairman of the Non-Life Council of GIA. His leadership extends to chairing the Ecowas Brown Card Scheme and serving as Executive Chairman of E-Solutions Consulting Ghana Ltd. Maria began her career with Unique Insurance Company (UIC) in September 2006 as an Underwriter, where her diligence, attention to detail, and technical proficiency allowed her to rise swiftly through the ranks. Over the years, she has taken on multiple roles, each one building on her growing expertise and leadership skills, ultimately culminating in her current position as the General Manager, Technical at UIC, where she drives the company’s strategic initiatives. In her current position, she oversees the company’s technical operations, ensuring that UIC’s processes in risk assessment, policy management, and client services adhere to the highest industry standards and meet client expectations. Kwasi Adomako Mends-Gyasi is a versatile individual with extensive training and experience in Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Investment Management, Insurance and Risk Management, and Business Management. He holds a BA degree in Management and Psychology, an MBA in Finance, and an MPhil in Insurance and Risk Management from the University of Ghana, Legon. Kwasi has attended several courses and training programs and obtained certificates in Management, Internal Auditing, Insurance, Tourism Management, and Anti-Money Laundering. He is a lead investigator and is experienced in fraud and insurance investigations. Mr. Mends-Gyasi has over 23 years of wide-ranging corporate experience in the Finance industry, including over 14 years in senior management positions. His working career commenced at EMPRETEC Ghana Foundation (EMPRETEC Ghana) as an Accounts Officer, and rose quickly to the position of Assistant Manager - Finance and Administration, with responsibility for EGF Ghana and Credit Sourcing (a subsidiary of EMPRETEC Ghana). During this period, he handled several roles including Budgeting and Budgetary control, Project Accountant for several international and UN projects, and Accountant for EMPRETEC and Credit Sourcing. He later joined Unique Insurance Company (UIC) as an Assistant Manager in 2005 responsible for the Audit Unit. At UIC he has risen through the ranks, and presently, he is the Head of our Internal Audit Department. He has contributed significantly in diverse roles and positions to the growth of the Company. He has headed our Credit Control Unit, and was the Acting Head, Finance Department. He has also served on several Management Committees, including Discipline, Investigations, Auditing, Insurance Claims, Employee Compensations Committee, and Procurement. Gifty has a dimensional career experience in banking, finance and insurance. She holds an LLB from the University of London, UK, an MBA in Management from the University of Suffolk, UK, a BSc in Banking & Finance from the Central University College and an Advance Diploma in Insurance from the Ghana Insurance College. Gifty joined Unique Insurance in 2017 with over 10 years of rich experience in channel distribution and group-based marketing having previously worked with Prudential Bank Ltd and Unique Life Assurance. During her working days with Prudential Bank Ltd, through her diligence and vigilance, a syndicate of fake currency notes was busted in the Bono Ahafo region. Gifty was noted for her meticulous attitude towards work for which reason she was made to assist the newly opened Circle branch of the bank in order to achieve its set targets. With her knack for success, while working with Unique Life Assurance, she developed and grew the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union welfare policy with over 1500 members within three (3) years with a cumulative premium of GHc6M. Gifty currently is the General Manager for Business Development & Distribution for Unique Insurance Company Ltd, she joined as an Assistant Manager in charge of Agency in 2017 and grew the agency force by 50% in less than a year of joining the company. By dint of proven results, she was promoted to the position of Marketing Manager in 2019. This position she held with alacrity and excellently performed her duties to the admiration of all. As the marketing manager, she led the marketing team to grow the Company’s premium consistently by 35% from 6% in 3 years. Through her leadership, the company’s market share has grown from 0.6% to 1.07% in 4 years. Bernice Oforiwaa Boamah is a seasoned insurance professional with over 20 years of experience in claims management, underwriting, reinsurance, and branch network operations. She joined Unique Insurance Company Limited in 2011 as an Assistant Manager in the Claims Unit and currently serves as the Senior Manager in the same department. In this role, she has played a pivotal part in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the company’s claims processes, contributing significantly to its overall success. Prior to joining Unique Insurance, Bernice gained extensive industry experience at Donewell Insurance Company Limited. During her time there, she held various important positions, including Supervisor of the General Accident Department, Cape Coast Branch Manager, and Assistant Manager in the Claims Department. Her wide-ranging responsibilities allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the intricacies of insurance claims and operations, which have been invaluable throughout her career. Bernice is a Chartered Insurer and an associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in both the United Kingdom and Ghana (CIIG), reflecting her commitment to professional development and excellence in the insurance industry. Mahamud holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Education, Winneba, and an MSc in Industrial Finance and Investment from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He is also a proud member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, and the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana. With a career rooted in driving financial excellence, Mahamud began his professional journey in various finance roles across notable companies, including Aksa Energy Company Ghana Ltd, Masco Foods Limited (Operators of KFC Ghana), Alubond West Africa Ltd, and Juaben Oil Mills Limited. His responsibilities have included financial control, performance management, and commercial business partnering, where he has leveraged his analytical prowess and communication skills to optimize financial operations. In August 2022, Mahamud was appointed Chief Finance Officer of Unique Insurance Company, after successfully serving as Finance Manager from December 2019. In his current role, he leads the company’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Mahamud has a passion for leadership and knowledge sharing, often mentoring young finance professionals in the industry.
